This 39 pages issue of PERC reports deals with the 100-year anniversary of the National Parks Service, an agency responsible for managing some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world but with a massive $11.5 billion maintenance backlog that Congress is unlikely to solve To address these issues, PERC held a three-day workshop to explore the past, present, and future of national parks.
The message was clear: We should find ways to improve park management. That includes harnessing the forces of private enterprise to sustain and fund our national parks, more creative solutions and responsible policies are needed. Together, these proposals seek to reduce the agency’s reliance on Congress, improve park maintenance and operations, and prepare the parks for the challenges of the twenty-first century.
I do think that some papers are relevant to France, for instance “Franchising parks : is outsourcing parks a key to solve the National Park Service financial problems ?”
